After seeing Heath Ledger’s portrayal of Joker in The Dark Knight, we never thought anyone would ever surpass that level. When Collin Farrell’s Penguin was announced, fans were excited, but they didn’t expect the performance to be this good. The Irish actor has blessed the industry with phenomenal performances since 2000, but fans were always skeptical about his role as the cunning DC villain. However, the actor surprised fans in the Batman movie. Now, the first reviews of the HBO TV series The Penguin are also out, and we have to admit that the actor has taken the DC villain to the next level with his acting skills.
The Penguin is considered DC’s best villain series
“THE PENGUIN” series ends one week before “THE BATMAN: PART II”:
“THE [Penguin] The story takes place over the next few weeks leading up to the end of the year. We’re not playing Christmas or New Year’s, but we’re getting there.

The Penguin is one of the caped crusader’s most vicious enemies, and the HBO series tried to highlight that. We saw Collin’s performance as the villain in the Batman movie, and it was truly impressive. Honestly, it was extremely difficult to recognize Collin with that makeup, and for many fans, it was simply the Penguin. That being said, the movie was about Batman, so we didn’t get to see much of the Penguin in the movie. But that was rectified thanks to the TV series.
Many fans were hoping to see Robbert Pattinson’s Batman in the TV series, but according to some rumors, this will not happen. However, let’s not forget that Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker also broke all records without Batman.
The Penguin has yet to hit streaming platforms for global audiences, but as usual, critics got to see it a week before the show’s official release. And most early critics seem impressed with the show’s storytelling and the actor’s performance, of course. That’s why the show has a 91% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Additionally, The Penguin is also considered one of the best comic book villain performances of all time and the best live-action comic book adaptation.
“No series would work without masterful performances. Overall, The Penguin brings together some of the most incredible television actors of 2024. Colin Farrell delivers an immersive, career-best performance as Batman’s titular foe. What we saw of him in The Batman barely scratches the surface of his character and what makes him tick. From emotional scenes shared with Oz’s mother to demonstrating manipulative methods to outwit his enemies, Farrell fleshes out a one-of-a-kind performance that stands as one of the greatest villains ever seen in a comic book movie or television series.” – Jacob Fisher (Movie Discussion)
If first impressions are anything to go by, it’s safe to say that the TV series is going to be awesome. Regardless, we’ll get to experience its genius when it officially premieres on HBO Max on September 19, 2024.
