Apple’s iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia operating systems bring a host of impressive features and quality-of-life improvements. Among the many Apple Intelligence features, Apple has introduced Genmoji on iPhones. You must have heard this name by now. If you are wondering what is iOS 18 Genmoji feature and how to create Genmoji on iPhone, we have you covered. Here you go!
What is Genmoji in iOS 18?
Genmoji (Generative + Emoji) is one of the Apple Intelligence features that takes emoji to a whole new level. It lets you create custom emojis for any occasion on your device using Apple Intelligence. You can create unique Genmojis on an iPhone by bringing up the AI prompt and keyboard to type a simple description like “t-rex wearing a tutu on a surfboard” or “smiley relaxing carrying cucumbers.”
As you provide the description, you will see a new Genmoji appear for you with more options to choose from. You can also use photos to create a Genmoji of your friends and family. Want to turn your mom into a superhero? Now you can.

This all-new AI feature on iPhone gives users the freedom to describe how they feel. Just like an emoji, you can add a Genmoji to your messages, share it as a sticker, or use it as a Tapback reaction in the Messages app.
How to Create Genmoji on iPhone
Apple hasn’t released Genmoji as part of the first set of Apple Intelligence features. As of now, you can’t create Genmojis on your iPhone. The Cupertino tech giant could launch Genmoji in October or later in 2024. According to a Report by Mark GurmanApple has delayed the release of the Genmoji feature on iOS 18 to December 2024.
While the iPhone XR, XS, XS Max, and newer models are now compatible with iOS 18-enabled devices, not all of them support Apple Intelligence features. To use iOS 18’s Genmoji feature, you’ll need an iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, any iPhone 16 model, iPad M series, or Mac M series.
At the moment, only a few Apple Intelligence features are available, such as writing tools, the summary feature, and the cleanup tool. Apple suggested that “some additional features, languages, and platforms” would be available over the next year when it announced the Apple Intelligence release date at the iPhone 16 launch event.
