Last week, Google finally rolled out Android 15 QPR1 Beta 2, which includes a bunch of UI additions and quality-of-life changes. Additionally, a bunch of new internal feature additions were added to testing that are supposedly headed to future releases, including a revamped quick settings menu that’s expected to arrive in Android 16. Android 15 added improvements to factory reset protection and is gearing up to add another iOS security feature.
Android will soon get a feature similar to Apple’s Device Theft Protection, further improving the security of your apps. Currently, your device’s PIN is the only thing that keeps your apps and services secure. Once the new protection feature is rolled out, Android asks for your fingerprint before accessing important data such as credit card information and passwords.
This can come in handy when a thief steals your phone and knows your PIN. The feature asks for your biometrics and doesn’t fall back on the PIN/password like a screen lock does (unless you’re in a trusted location), making it impossible to get your hands on crucial information.

Android Expert Michael Rahman via Android Authority I spotted a string in the Android code called “required_biometrics_prompt_description” with the value “Identity verification is enabled”. Another Android Authority contributor, AssembleDebug, posted a screenshot of an unknown feature called Mandatory biometrics.
Mishaal claims that this is an improved version of Trusted Places, where Android keeps your device unlocked as long as you’re in a “trusted location.” For those who don’t remember seeing this feature, it’s another feature called Extend unlocking resides.
While we don’t know when this feature will be rolled out, according to Mishaal, it will require Android 15 QPR1 or higher because it is enabled after changes are made to the application that handles the biometric prompt dialog.
What do you think about this new Android security feature “Identity Verification”? Let us know in the comments.
