The first episode of The Penguin is here and I have to say that the creators have outdone themselves. This series probably has one of the best pilot episodes I have seen in a while. Picking up right after the end of The Batman, The Penguin moves forward to show us the aftermath of the floods caused by The Riddler and Oswald Cobblepot, trying to make the most of it. However, this series made mention of one of the most famous serial killers in the DC franchise, The Hangman. So, in this article, let’s find out who The Hangman is in Penguin Episode 1 and the DC comics.
Sofia Falcone was the executioner

The Hangman is a serial killer who appears in DC comics and is often considered one of the most fearsome and ruthless villains in Batman’s vast roster of enemies. In the comics, she was released from prison by her father when a serial killer named the Holiday Killer began killing members of the Falcone family.
In the comics, it was revealed that the Holiday Killer was none other than Carmine Falcone’s son Alberto who wanted to take over his father’s empire. However, the story is not that simple. After all this, Sofia still couldn’t save her father as he was killed by Two-Face, enraged by this, she tried to kill Two-Face but Catwoman got in her way and as a result of their fight, Sofia fell out of the penthouse window and was left paralyzed.
It was later revealed that Sofia faked everything and turned into a serial killer named The Hangman who would kill Gotham Police officers using a noose after her father’s body disappeared from the Gotham Police Department. At the end of this story, Sofia tries to kill Two-Face but Batman saves him and as Batman fights Sofia, Two-Face shoots him in the head, ending the Hangman in the DC comics.
What is the role of the executioner in The Penguin?
In The Penguin series, the story was greatly altered and we are told that Sofia was captured by the Gotham police and sent to Arkham Asylum for rehabilitation. In this series, she tries to find out more about her missing brother, Alberto, who Penguin killed. However, even though she suspects him, there is no evidence that Oswald is responsible for Alberto’s disappearance. Furthermore, Oswald and his new sidekick Victor managed to frame Maloni for the murder, and only time will tell what happens next. So stay tuned for more updates!
