Google strengthens Android security in India with enhanced fraud protection

Enhanced Fraud Protection in India

To avoid cases where users can install malicious apps that can steal their data, the Enhanced Fraud Protection feature will block the installation of apps that you try to load from your web browser or any third-party app store. This will only affect apps that attempt to capture sensitive information on your device, which usually results in financial scams.

Enhanced fraud protection tested in Singapore

The program has already been tested in Singapore for 6 months, where it helped avoid 900,000 high-risk installations. After a successful trial, Google is introducing enhanced fraud protection in India, where such activities are quite common.

This will be part of the Digi Kavach program, which Google launched last year for India. The search giant is working with the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Center and has integrated Google Play on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal to quickly identify and investigate financial fraud activities.

Since many people here easily fall into the trap of financial scams by downloading a malicious app unknowingly, this new fraud protection feature will be very useful for them. Especially older people, who can’t tell more difference between a Play Store version of an app and a suspicious version of it online. What do you think of this enhanced security feature?
