But Snapchat works a little differently than other social media apps you might be used to. Method 1: Search for friends on Snapchat
If you need to find friends, the easiest way to do it is to search for them using the search function on Snapchat. All you need to do is enter their name or username in the search bar. Then select the appropriate profile. Need help? Here are the step-by-step instructions.
- On Snapchat, tap the search icon top left.
- Enter your friend’s name or username here.
- Select your friend’s account and tap Add beside that.

Another way to find your existing friends on Snapchat is to allow contacts access to the app. It will then suggest people from your contacts who are on Snapchat. Here’s how to give Snapchat access to your contacts and add friends.
- On Snapchat, tap the Quick Add icon at the top right.
- Here, press All contacts.
- If you are on Android, select Continue. On iOS, tap Access settings.
- On Android, you will be taken to the App Info screen of the Settings app. Here, navigate to Permissions > Contacts then select Allow.
- On iPhone, you will be taken to the Snapchat screen in the Settings app. Here, navigate to Contacts and then choose Full Access.
Snapchat will display suggestions from your contact list. Tap the Add button next to their name to send a request.
Method 3: Check the Quick Add section
The Quick Add section on Snapchat suggests people based on your current friends list, mutual friends, and people in your contact list. To access it, tap the icon Quick Add icon at the top right and press the button Add button to send a friend request to someone.
Method 4: Add people around you on Snapchat
Snapchat can even suggest people around you if you have allowed location access. However, there is no separate section for this. You will find your nearby friend’s suggestions on the quick add page. On Android
- Long press the Snapchat app icon.
- Now press the I icon from the drop-down menu.
- Go to Permissions > Location.
- Select Allow all the time.
- Turn it on Use precise location to fall over.
On iPhone
- Go to Settings > Applications > Snapchat.
- On this page, tap Location.
- Select Always and turn it on Precise location to fall over.
Now go back to Snapchat, open Quick Add, and refresh the page by swiping down. It should start showing suggestions from people nearby.
Method 5: Scan someone’s Snapcode
Finally, you can always ask someone to share their Snapchat code with you, so you can add them to your friends list. It’s good to have a little face-to-face interaction before continuing the conversation on Snapchat. Plus, it also ensures that you’re not adding a random stranger.
