The new iPhone 16 models announced by Apple have replaced the X70 modem with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 modem. The modem integrates artificial intelligence features for improved speeds, improved coverage, and longer-lasting performance.

SpeedSmart compared last year’s Pro models to the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max and found that, on average, download speeds increased by 23.7% across AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon.

Although T-Mobile offers the fastest download and upload speeds, download speed increases from iPhone 15 Pro to iPhone 16 Pro is higher on AT&T and Verizon networks.

iPhone 16 Pro models on T-Mobile And Verizon achieve average download speeds of over 400Mbps and with both coverages constantly expanding, performance is bound to improve over time.

Download speeds also improved by 22.1% across all three operators, with average speeds reaching 30Mbps.

Apple is reportedly working on a custom modem that could launch as early as next year. Qualcomm’s modems won’t be completely replaced at first, as only a few 2025 modems will reportedly feature an Apple-designed modem, while the rest will likely continue to rely on a Snapdragon chip.

Apple iPhone 16 The lineup also supports WiFi 7, ensuring improved WiFi speeds and more reliable connectivity. Compared to previous-generation models that supported Wi-Fi 6E, the new phones should theoretically offer four times faster download speeds.

These connectivity improvements alone might be reason enough for some people to crown the iPhone 16 as the best phone of the year. Not only can you expect a smoother browsing experience, but also better connectivity in tricky areas like the subway, thanks to the Snapdragon X75’s AI prowess.
