Like other operating systems and devices, Chromebooks are also prone to issues. While these issues can stem from both hardware and software, the probability that the problem you are facing is related to the operating system is quite high. One of the most common issues faced by Chromebook users is network issues, especially the “Network Not Available” error. Here’s how to fix the “Network Not Available” error on a Chromebook.
Method 1: Check your internet connection
It might not be your Chromebook that’s at fault, but your internet connection. One reason why you might be getting the “Network Unavailable” error even though your Chromebook is connected to a Wi-Fi network could be due to scheduled maintenance by your service provider or technical issues on their end.

The best way to check this is to run a speed test. If the web page doesn’t load, contact your service provider or check their app to see if you’ve missed any scheduled maintenance notifications. If your internet connection isn’t working, you can file a complaint with your service provider so they can diagnose the issue.
Method 2: Check Router Settings
If everything is working on your service provider’s side, your router settings may have changed and are now affecting internet connectivity. Log in to the router’s admin console and try changing the Wi-Fi band channels.

Check the Connections page to see if your router is receiving an active connection from your service provider. This is the best way to know if the “Network Unavailable” error is related to the service provider or the router.
Method 3: Restart your router

If there are no issues with your router settings, there may be several factors at play. For example, there may be an IP address or DNS conflict, and your router may need a reboot to reset and refresh the connection.
Restarting a router can be one of the most effective ways to get rid of the “Network Unavailable” issue. And while you’re at it, try reconnecting the WAN cable. The ideal way to restart a router is to turn off the power and wait for at least 30 seconds before turning it back on. The same goes for reconnecting the WAN cable.
Method 4: Restart your Chromebook

If neither the router nor the service provider are at fault, it’s safe to assume that there’s a problem with your Chromebook. To make sure the core components of the operating system are working properly, restart your Chromebook and try connecting to the network.
If the error persists, try turning the power off and on again. Wifi toggle in settings. If that doesn’t work, there are still a few fixes you can try as mentioned below.
Method 5: Update Chrome OS

One of the recent system updates may have disrupted the Wi-Fi functionality on your Chromebook. Developers are usually quick to push out another update for an issue as serious as “Network Unavailable.” To update your Chromebook, go to Settings > About Chromebook > Update.
We realize this requires an active internet connection, but Chromebooks automatically download updates and it’s possible that they downloaded the update before the network error occurred and can now be updated to the latest version.
Method 6: Try an Ethernet connection

If you have a lot of work to do and want to finish it before diagnosing the “Network Not Available” issue, check if the Ethernet is working. Most Chromebooks come with a built-in Ethernet port. A Chromebook will automatically recognize the wired connection and start using it.
Not to mention that if Ethernet is working, that’s a clue that there might be a problem with your Chromebook’s wireless adapter.
Method 7: Reset your Chromebook

If nothing has worked so far, your only option might be to reset it, which in Chromebook jargon is called Powerwashing. There are many ways to Powerwash a Chromebook, and we’ve detailed each of them in our guide.
Method 8: Get your Chromebook repaired
Most Chromebook manufacturers offer a standard one or two-year warranty on their machines. If your Chromebook is still under warranty, you can call the manufacturer’s service hotline or visit your nearest service center to have the problem diagnosed or get a new replacement Chromebook.

If your Chromebook is out of warranty, your only option is to take it to a nearby laptop repair shop. Just be sure to browse online reviews and select a highly-rated repair shop. The repair shop should be able to fix the problem for you by replacing the wireless adapter inside or troubleshooting using other methods.
Here are all the methods you can use to get rid of the Network Unavailable error on your Chromebook. While most of them should help fix the problem, sometimes the issue can be much more serious. While you can also try diagnosing hardware issues, we don’t recommend it and it’s best to leave it to professionals.
